ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hey, I'm Holly! I’m thrilled you’re here—because we’re a lot alike, you and me. We’re both trying to make a life out of what we love to do. I grew up in a very blue-collar household; my mom worked for a hotel and I started my career with hotels at a very young age. My first exposure to the hospitality industry was at the age of 13. Back then I worked as a housekeeper, cleaning rooms for "The New Yorker" or as us Rhode Islanders call it The New Yaw-kaa!

My first job out of school was working at the Dentist office. As much as I liked that job, something in me kept pulling me back towards hotels. So I went back! I started fresh in the hotel industry, first with the Fairfield Inn and then moved on to Extended Stay America (ESA). That is where I truly learned all the hard core gorilla tactics. Because ESA was such a controlled environment when it came to spending money for the hotel, I had to be nifty and learn creative ways to get things done. At ESA I started as a Front Desk Agent and made my way up to hotel manager.In 2013 I had the opportunity to become a General Manager for Hampton Inn by Hilton - of course I took it! At the time it was managed by Hersha Hospitality Group (HHM) and was later managed by Interstate Hotel Group.

I was lucky enough to be under these 2 great management companies where I learned the financial acumen of being a General Manager.And, now I'm committed to sharing my hospitality knowledge and experience with industry peers. Happy learning!

There is a LOT of great information

This course holds your hand for all of the topics and shows you exactly what to expect when you get a GM position. There is a LOT of information here. Every video is full of tips and tricks and it is really easy to forget them, I am thankful they have a module recap. Before taking the course I knew the managerial side, but I was unaware of the balancing and accounting that a GM does on a day to day basis. If I was put in a GM position right now I feel I would be able to succeed. I love the extra resources - it is an instant help in my current position. This course should be essential in training a GM it gives you a clear vision of what the position entails, and how to correctly do the job.
